Star Wars for example isn't scientifically sound but it sounds plausiable enough that you don't spend your whole time thinking 'wtf, that would never happen'. Just make it sound possible and find suitable penalties.

The Draijuzen's eye contains to Sclera, a thick one and a thin one. The thin one protects the eye under normal circumstances as a normal human's would. While the thick sclera is made up of very strong muscular linings known to be harder than durasteel. It functions only in high intense heat and molten environments. This sclera, when not in use, is in two parts, one on bottom and one on top, that retract behind the eye and out of sight when not in use. When the presence of molten material or high intense heat is present the muscle is triggered and wraps itself around the thinner, primary sclera mixing in with several chemicals from a gland that lies right underneath the eyes. The function of this muscle is also involuntary.
